From overflows to outcomes: Stormwater solutions to help you achieve AMP8 goals
The aims of AMP8 align closely with the Environmental Act 2021 and national climate goals, promoting investment in infrastructure, innovation and environmental improvement.
Key goals:
- Reduce storm overflows and pollution events.
- Improve river and coastal water quality.
- Minimise water leakage and waste.
- Build flood and drought resilience.
- Drive down emissions.
OFWATS’s focus is to tackle the significant challenges facing the water industry, particularly the need for investment and modernisation of aging infrastructure. These pressures arise both from the increasing frequency of storm events linked to climate change and from the growing demand on water supply and wastewater treatment driven by population growth.
What does success look like?
Water Companies are expected to demonstrate clear progress, with fewer storm overflows, cleaner rivers and reduced leakage rates. Alongside this, companies should be able to show meaningful steps towards net zero, wider adoption of digital water technologies and stronger levels of public trust and customer engagement.
Delivering smarter stormwater solutions for AMP8
ELIQUO HYDROK works with all major UK and Ireland water companies, providing practical engineering solutions. The wealth of in-house expertise is backed by a forward-thinking mindset to help customers achieve long-term goals sustainably.
Part of ELIQUO WATER GROUP, our extensive portfolio includes solutions for wastewater management, wastewater treatment, clean water treatment and surface water management; Mecana PCMF (Pile Cloth Media Filter), aeration technologies, Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) screens, and storm tank flushing systems
Our stormwater management technologies and design expertise help water companies deliver practical sustainable outcomes, supporting resilience, compliance and public trust. Below we outline how our range of solutions can help deliver your AMP8 stormwater objectives.
Flushing
Storm tanks are vital for protecting treatment works and the environment during heavy rainfall. But once the storm passes, sediment and sludge settle at the base of tanks, creating odour, blockages, and high maintenance costs if left unmanaged.
A reliable flushing system allows tanks to return to full capacity after every storm, preventing sediment build-up and ensuring long-term compliance with minimal operator intervention; the Storm Flush is a non-powered, automatic flushing system designed for new tanks or retrofit projects. Once installed directly on a level concrete plinth, the system requires no external power, water, or controls.

Powered Screens

CSOs are critical for protecting our networks and treatment works during intense rainfall, but uncontrolled discharges can release solids, fats, oils, and greases (FOG) into the environment.
To address common problems such as blinding, reduce extensive maintenance and lower operational cost and risk, the Mecmex powered screen is designed to provide self-cleaning CSO screening. Using dual opposing brushes to keep 6mm wedge wire panels clear, even under high debris or FOG loading. Available in 90° or 180°, and in standard or lifting configurations, Mecmex offers flexibility for new or retrofit CSO chambers.

Static screens
For those that are looking at ways to adopt low energy low maintenance infrastructure, into their CSO chambers, it is worth utilising static screening solutions that deliver performance without power, controls, or complexity.
The ELIQUO HYDROK Peak Screen is a modular, passive CSO screen using 6mm two directional wedge wire. Designed for both new and existing chambers, it protects watercourses by retaining solids <6 mm, helping you to meet stricter overflow permit targets.

Solutions for smaller sites

To reduce pollution incidents, improve resilience, and deliver sustainable solutions, small pumping stations must not be overlooked. The Letterbox Screen is a static screen designed for confined chambers and pumping stations. Manufactured in stainless steel with 6 × 6 mm wedge wire, it provides two-way screening while resisting blinding thanks to a built-in first flush baffle.
